GOPUR EVENTS IN BRIEF

March 10: Tibetan National Uprising Day
After holding an official function, class 12 students went to Palampur to join the Peace March. Tibetan students and local residents from Bir marched around the market with placards bearing slogans such as ‘Free Tibet’, ‘save Tibet’, ‘time is running out’ etc. Another function was held at the market center where the official statement of His Holiness was read out and the national uprising day song was sung. The students returned to school and the Uprising day drew to a close.

Graduation Day (class X and XII)
The month of March and April witnessed two memorable days or events – class X and XII graduation days. The education director Mr. Ngwang Dorjee and the president of T.C.V.Ama Jetsun Pemala, were chief guests for class X and XII graduation functions respectively. The captains and prefects, and the present class X and XII student helpers worked tirelessly to make the day special and memorable. The outgoing students whole-heartedly appreciated their hard work. We sincerely wish them luck and success.

June 1: Summer Season Picnic
Holiday and picnic were the sizzling talk of Gopalpur village. For those students who were not going for holiday, the school authority arranged picnic at Manja, which is located near Palampur. For this picnic all the non-holiday goers were classified into two groups and each group’s picnic lasted for three days and two nights. All had a wonderful and refreshing holiday.

July 18: Science Day
It was International Science Day; class X D students spoke upon the scientific achievements of ten great scientists. Pema Palmo and Tsetan Dorjee of X D did blood group test of many students who were not aware of their own blood group. Class IX and X students had done write-ups on ‘Science in real life’. To give a nice finishing touch to this special day, an Open Science Quiz Competition, was held.

June 23: SOS Founding Day, Gopalpur Day and Summer Fete
A function was held at Sherab Woenang hall and class VII to IX students had congregated there. Our village Director Mr. Passang Wangdue, Gen Tsering Tashi and student representative Thinley of XII Arts A delivered speeches related to the occasion. Teaching and non-teaching staff organized the summer fete. Small kids were often caught in vicious circle of euphoria and elation. It started at 10 in the morning. Yummy eatables, music and games made this day fun-filled and refreshing. Tom bola finally rolled the day to a close.

8-11 August: TCV Common Exam
This year TCV common exams were held from 8th to 11th of August. Class V and VIII students were busy preparing for the exam with their teachers providing full support constantly. Even though this year’s results weren’t as good as earlier years’, it seems the students did their level best. We wish them luck for the next time.

12 August: Inter House English Elocution
Three participants from each house took part in the 2nd English Elocution Contest, on this day. All of them were from class IX and above. Compulsory poem for the contest was ‘Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner’ by Samuel Taylor Coleridge. Trisong came first. Tenzin Diki XIIA, Yeshi XIIC and Kusang XI were the individual winners of speech, poetry and drama section, respectively, and thus qualified for this year’s final English Balloon contest.

15 August: Marathon Final
“Run for your health”. Keeping this as the soul aim our school has been organizing cross-country runs every year. This year also 40 students from each house have taken part in this program. Songtsen house was the overall winner.
15 August: Hindi Song Competition (class VI-VIII)

To make Hindi learning much easier, this competition was held among classes VI, VII and VIII. The students sang Hindi patriotic songs melodiously on the night of 15th August. It was also a dedication for our Indian brothers and sisters who celebrated their Independence day on that day. Class VI P was the winner. Assignment by Tenzin Tsomo
