Chuthik:
INTERVIEWA chat with a small boy about his journey to IndiaJayang Tashi of class IX D asked us if he could take an interview with two of his newly arrived small brothers for our school magazine who have suffered a lot while fleeing from his home town in the snow land Tibet to India. We welcomed him and we wish you’ll enjoy their conversation at below. These two newly arrived brothers from Amdo (Ngapa) admitted to our school in the beginning of this year’s academic session. They were apprehended on the way to India, and incarcerated for 24 days. Starved and feared, but they did fantastic job for they are 7 and 10 years old. They collected His Holiness’s photos that had been thrown everywhere in the jail and trampled. Chinese authorities threatened them, but they were not able to investigate a single word from them. I caught up one of them in order to know the way they were treated in the prison, and the current situation in Tibet. Choegal the elder on looks matured, and spoke well, but Tsering Yarphel was very curious and lovable. J. Tashi: Can you tell me something about your hometown and your schooling in Tibet? Choegyal: The blue sky, the crystal clear creeks, and the infinite pasture are my hometown (just kidding). I was born in a medium nomad family (Ngapa). Yaks, sheep and horses were my sole companions in the heydays of my childhood. Ah! Yes, I did my schooling at Ngapa central school for three years, of course Chinese language was priority. Ngapa is a big city now a days. There is no sky scraper, but uniformly all the houses are of 3.4 and 5 stores. Vehicles, motorbikes and trucks are very common, mobile phone is a toy, even the middle, higher school students and the rig Shaw pullers have it. J. Tashi: What did you feel when you were told you would go to India? Choegyal: I was very excited and delighted, to tell you the truth, I thought India is a very advanced country and full of fun. About His Holiness and exile government, I didn’t know anything. On the other hand, I thought I could meet my two uncles whom I have never met. J. Tashi: How were you caught? Choegyal: That was a windy midnight, we were crossing the border river, a very angry river. We have four in group, a guide, an aged Tibetan and us. The river almost washed us away, but we were eventually able to cross the river. Out of nowhere, five heavily armed soldiers came and caught us. Someone who knew our movement has probably informed them, but the back scene actor is still under cover. J. Tahi: Could you please tell us something about the days that you have spent in the jail? Choegyal: The next day we were more aggressive and strict. We were locked there for seven days without anything to eat except a cup of black tea for each meal. To be honest, they had never beat us, Tsering Yarphel was the youngest prisoner. And he roved around all the day, but no one would stop him. During the seventh day, Tsering brought a red robed Lama’s photo. The aged Tibetan man recognized and hid it. Later, a policeman came and informed us to pack our belongings. Then, he left. Tsering took me to the spot where he found His Holiness’s photo. To my astonishment, thousands of His Holiness’s photos were piled there in corner, and many were scattered all around. In a hurry, we picked about 50 photos, and went back to our cell. (Tethered them with a thread and tied it around our neck, we didn’t untie the thread till we reach Nepal.) Then, we were transferred to Nyalam, there we were locked for a fortnight. It was very cold, we were fed with a cup of hot water and a bowl of Tsampa (Barley) as brunch, for dinner two tingmoes (steamed bread) with few pieces of potatoes. Oh! Yes, there were many monks and nuns in the cell. They were ruthlessly beaten up. The day seemed longer than a year. Tsering cried a lot, sometimes he incessantly cried for few hours, till his throat clotted and tears dried up. But finally our uncle came and fetch us, he was registered and warned. Taking the risk we made another attempt on the same day that we were released, and we met Mr. Luck and we were succeed in our mission. J. Tashi: Thank you. Friend, readers, we are fortunate to be here. Think, how many children in Tibet are envying our merits and longing to be in our shoes? How many of children have lost their lives on the way to India? The list would be endless and beyond our imagination. Such opportunity is seldom, grab it and work hard for those hundreds of thousands who are waiting for us to bring the sunshine out of the cloud. Jayang Tashi IX D CHOK TSERING (Senior section second term Topper)Chuthik brings to you an exclusive interview with Chok Tsering who is the topper among all senior section students in the third term exam. He shares with us the secret behind his success, his study strategies and many other valuable tips and lessons we can take for life. Hope his story will surely inspire all of us in doing studies.Congratulation Chok Tsering lak, for topping the entire senior section during III term exam. Thank you. What is your feeling being the topper among senior students during Ii term exam? Really I was shocked about my results, as I have never scored such marks. my II term results encouraged me to study more and emphasis more on studies. And we all know that education is unlimited, as it has no end. So I will try to do better. What is your percentage? I have scored 88.45% in II term exam. Please, give a brief account of yourself. I came to India in 1993 and joined in S.O.S T.C.V Suja school. There, I did my primary school till class VI and after from graduating it, I joined T.C.V Gopalpur for my further secondary education. After my class X board, I again joined Arts stream because I don’t want to leave my cozy Gopur School. Who deserves the credit for your colorful results? Our staff members and teachers who put tremendous efforts for our cause, they should be credited for my success. It is also due to the great support of my loving roommates, class mates and friends. Without their support I would be like what I am today. My credit also goes to my younger brother who always advises me to do this and that. What is the secret behind your success? There is nothing secret as it is all because of my hard work and due to the guidance of teachers and friends. It is also because of my regularity, which helps me to cover the subjects faster while the exam is near at hand. Do you have any special study plan? I gave equal importance to all the subjects normally. So before two weeks of exam, I prepare a daily schedule to study but it doesn’t work smoothly as certain misfortunes come in between. I heard that you have a very good presentation skill. Does it make any difference in exam? Why not? There are many methods to attract the examiner. I think it is one of the skills to attract examiner, as everyone needs a clean and tidy papers. Therefore, presentation plays a vital role while taking exam. Many students in the higher class can’t finish their exam within 3 hours. Do you face such problems? Yes, it is absolutely true as I am also facing the same problem as especially with economics and political science. But it’s all because of our problem as we never stick to the words limit and also we never look at the weightage of marks. So it consumes lots of time leaving few questions. How do you find our school magazine Chutik? Does it need any changes? As compared to other schools, ours is a little better but monthly magazine should be more voluminous so that more students can contribute in it. Are you going to join college or do professional course? I am directly going to join college. What is your hobby? My hobby includes reading magazines, novels or any other articles, listening to music and gossiping with friends. This is your last year in school. What is your feeling? Its so difficult for me to express in words as I regard that this school is my real home where I received parental love and care from the teachers and foster parents. Though, I don’t want to go away from my home but I believe in an English proverb, which states that “for every meeting, there is a parting.” What is the most important tactic while writing the exam? Form my point of view, time management it’s the first most important thing while taking the exam followed by writing neatly and sticking to the work limit. What is your last word to the fellow students? Study hard and respect the staff members. Thank you very much. Thank you very much and good luck. page:1 OF 1 |
